Week 05 - Project 2B: Digital Imaging (Double Exposure)

LECTURE

Sir Fauzi taught us the meaning and concept of Double Exposure and how to achieve those outcomes by using Adobe Photoshop. He further explained the blending mode such as multiply, darken, overlay, soft light, etc. These are parts of the component that make it possible for us to turn something with this double exposure effect.

TUTORIAL

We were provided with a video tutorial to follow through to achieve this double exposure-looking imaging. The image below is showing the original photo before the process of use using the appropriate tools such as the Object Selection tool and masking it later to separate the background from the foreground.

Figure 5.1 - Provided Material

After successfully masking it and adjusting the contrast and levelled the portrait to make it look better and brighter. Clipping masks the other provided images such as the forest, the clouds and the birds to be used to create our double exposure work as part of the Digital Imaging exercises.

Figure 5.2 - Progress #1

We are to duplicate the layers and clip them to ensure that we only leave the face part of the whole portrait while others are manipulated with the other images mentioned above. Using the appropriate blending modes also will help you achieve this surreal-looking imaging.

Figure 5.3 - Progress #2

In the tutorial video, we were taught how to make use of the Gradient Map function to ultimately change the whole colour palette according to our liking. Sourcing them from Adobe Stock is also an option if the provided ones do not suit our tastes.

PRACTICAL

Following the same steps as we've learned in the video tutorial, picking a self-portrait image of ourselves and manipulating it with other images to achieve this double exposure is the assignment that we are finally required to complete.
