LECTURE

Figure 3.1 - Toolbar from Adobe Photoshop

Today's class, more tools were taught to us but the main one is Lasso tool. Sir Fauzi mentioned the differences in those common tools and he elaborated that lasso tool is more precise but it also depends on the situation if it requires you to use pen tool or magic wand instead for example. Another thing that was taught is how to organise our layers as we go about our work because layering is important to go back and forth and to make adjustments when needed in the future.

TUTORIAL

- Paths, Masking, Layering

Figure 3.2 - Snippet of lecture video by Sir Fauzi

For our tutorial session, he presented a video of his on the process of doing digital collage for our Project 1 now that the physical one has ended. Tips and instructions were given on how to make use of masking technique, layering, removing background to combine it again strategically and creatively that will allow us to making our vision a reality.

We were also provided with the digital materials to make a rather demo version so that we would know how to do it on our own later on. Tool like Magic Wand was mentioned for quick removal of an image on a white background, it is a tool that is pixel-sensitive so it is easy to remove a simple image from a white background by using the magic wand rather than other tools such as lasso or pen tool.

PRACTICAL

Compositing the Digital Collage

We were instructed to at least include four layers for each composition layout that we do to make it more interesting and more of a collage-looking design. This practical session is basically also a continuation of the tutorial session before but instead of following the demo version from the lecturer, now we get to create our own creative version.
