REFLECTION
Experience
Advanced Typography feels so much more mature in a sense compared to Typography because of the foundational knowledge that we already have, I feel more confident in doing typographical designs because of that too. The tasks we did were interesting and fun and it feels like we truly needed those lessons prior to pursuing our specialisation. I'd always felt like Typography modules were really the centre of any design specialisation and it is that important. Being able to accomplish what I'd accomplished was just a fantasy years ago. Being able to realise that dream feels powerful.
Observation
Not denying that there are times when my friends and I felt like giving up due to the pressure of the workload from different modules combined. However, knowing that I was able to reprioritise and finish the entire Advanced Typography module really feels like an accomplishment. I observed that our lecturer Mr Vinod is much more approachable and relaxed this semester. Probably it's because we are over the days trying to learn foundational knowledge of Typography like a few months ago and was trying to make sure that we have the basics. Holding strong to his own phrase saying "You need to know the rules before you break the rules". He approached us with maturity and that is something I applaud his style for.
Findings
I find that Typography modules are like Design Principles modules, you really need to learn them before getting into any areas of specialisation of choice. Without these basics, you will not understand the intricacies of design.
