PROJECT 02: UI/UX Design Document
We are required to do presentation slides for this particular task. The
outline for this project has been given in our lecture
Introduction: Start the UX design document with an introduction that
explains the purpose and scope of the document, the target audience, and the
problem the app is intended to solve.
User Research:
Provide a detailed description of the user research that has been conducted.
These could include user persona and user journey map. Explain how the
research informed the design decisions.
Information Architecture:
Outline the content elements of the App and how they will be organized to
achieve the optimum information architecture. Explain the card sorting
method that was used and how it helped to organize the content.
MVP (Minimum Viable Product) Features:
List the App features and identify the minimum viable product (MVP) that
will be developed.
EXPLORATION FOR USER RESEARCH
Survey Questionnaire
To kickstart Project 02, we were instructed to design a set of questions for
user research that includes the four main sections to guide us in determining
the direction of our questions. The survey will help gather valuable insights
and perspectives from respondents to allow me to comprehend users'
preferences, pain points, goals, and experiences.
Using the knowledge from the Design Research Methodology/Dissertation module
that I did for the past 2 semesters, made me go for the mixed-approach
questionnaire involving both quantitative and qualitative questions to ensure
the credibility of the responses.
Here is the link to the survey questionnaire: Click Here!
After acquiring 50 respondents over a span of a week from all over the world,
including locals too. I was able to gather useful perspectives for me to
further analyse to find common goals and pain points that would aid me in the
redesigning processes. The compiled data analysis of the survey questionnaire
will be attached below.
CARD SORTING, USER JOURNEY MAP, USER PERSONA, USER FLOW MAPPING
After completing the data analysis, I was advised to move forward with the
card sorting method, there are a number of card sorting methods that you could
conduct but I went forward with the closed card sorting where users are given
a predetermined set of category names, and they are then asked to organise the
cards individually into these categories without the help of the
conductor.
Since the app has a good sense of navigation and straightforwardness because
of the rather linear application functions, that supports my decision to go
with the closed card sorting instead of the other types because I would like
to observe if users are able to solve the 'puzzle' by fitting the right
features into the appropriate categories which will aid in my design decisions
to know which to be remained or changed.
It is fully moderated, and I could then further understand their choices when
they think aloud during their sorting decisions. This provided me with a
qualitative analysis of their rationale and to make it a fair situation, I
will not be aiding them throughout the process except if they have questions
on what certain terminologies truly meant, to ensure that they have the
understanding and confidence in sorting their cards in the respective
categories. All of the cards are through a paper method. It will then be
digitalised for the ease of the designer to attach it together to the UI/UX
design document.
Summary:
- Closed
- Moderated
- Paper
Due to the time constraint, I've decided to conduct this card sorting with
three of my siblings with sticky notes and a large dining table to fit in
more than 30 sticky notes. The image attached below will be the finalised
card sorting result:
Moving on will be the User Journey Map. Creating the user journey map helps a
ton in determining the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) of the app (Check the
final UI/UX Design Document presentation Slides for the MVPs) that I'll be
redesigning and also the user flow mapping.
*Both tables in two different images are connected and separated for viewing purposes.

Before moving on to User Flow Mapping, another diagram that I did to get a full grasp on what to have in the flow map below, is to create a rough information architecture map first. By combining the ideation from both the Card Sorting Table and the Information Architecture Map, I was able to complete the User Flow Mapping much more easily. The image attached below will be the information architecture map:

Finally, it will be the User Flow Mapping. The image attached below will be
the in-depth user flow to the redesigned version of the Instax SHARE
application, a photo-printing and customisation app.

As for the User Persona, it will be attached together in the final
presentation slide and will be a compilation of these different parts and
sections of the design document in one place. User personas are derived from
two main observations that could be found in the data, which are the pain
points and the users' goals of a particular application.
As per the assignment brief, we are required to document the entire process
and also to create a final visual presentation slide with no minimum/maximum
number as long as the entire thing will be in the document that would
extensively explain the user research and data analysis done. Below is the
attachment of the presentation slides that I did in Canva that will be
embedded here:
REFLECTION
Although the title of the task sounds easy and simple, I can assure you that
that won't be the case. I've found myself taking hours of my own bedtime to
ensure that I can accommodate the time-consuming process of analysing a large
data sample and being able to convert it into presentation slides. A lot of
time is taken to ensure that, we are able to communicate our opinions after
the data analysis in such a concise document. Don't be fooled by thinking that
it is a simple task, the nuances of this task require more energy than you'd
imagine. However, I'm proud of myself for being able to finish this task with
a full heart. This assignment has helped me understand how UI/UX designer
prepare themselves beforehand, to ensure that their design work/outcome after
would be highly effective and functional rather than a pointless one. Being
able to see a common pattern that users will always look for in a particular
interface design was also an eye-opener because regardless of whether the
users have a design background or not, these design choices that we make will
really impact the perspectives of the end users.
