Task 01: Game Design Document
INSTRUCTIONS
TASK 01: GAME DESIGN DOCUMENT
Students are required to design and create their own 2D
side-scrolling/platformer game. The game design document serves as a blueprint
for the game and will contain all the necessary information and visual
references to develop the game. Sample GDD will be provided as a reference,
but students are expected to research more on the matter to determine the
necessary content items for their own GDD.
In Week 03 of our lecture, guidelines for the document were given as part of
the lecture content:
Vision is the game that you want to make and the presentation of it is the
game concept. What should you have in a Game Concept Document?
- Introduction (sometimes called a hook or elevator pitch - 30 seconds)
- Description/Game Overview (Gameplay, Game story, Game Mechanics, Mode and
Settings, Information of the game world)
- Key Features (Unique Selling Points USPs, Game Modes, Battle Systems,
Playable Characters, Progression Systems, Multiplayer Guild Systems)
- Game Genre
- Platform
- Target Audience
- Audio
Inspiration
After playing platformer games on my laptop, accessible from the link that was
provided in our class, I reminisced back in the day when I used to have my
GameBoy Advanced SP and the game W.I.T.C.H. was one of many games that I took
inspiration from.

Storyline:
Five girls, Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin were chosen to as
Guardians of Kandrakar, to protect the universe from evil. They each have
power over a different element: energy, water, fire, earth, and air. In the
game, the player must use each of their unique powers to thwart the evil
creatures of Meridian's plans. The game's storyline is based on season 1 of
the TV series.

Reflection
This design document-making was birthed out of pure joy and interest. I was quite focused on the stages it took to come out with the design document. Being able to play games in class to relive back the days when I used to play games more frequently, made me feel nostalgic. Hence, the choice to choose W.I.T.C.H game that I used to play in GameBoy last time as my main inspiration because it gives me the same nostalgic feeling while also taking into consideration the gameplay vibe is what I'm going for, for my own 3-level 2D platformer game.
