Progression;-

Week 01:
In Week 01, we were introduced to this module and our lecturer provided us with enough materials for us to understand how this module works. The attached document is the projects briefing and we are elaborated further on what sort of projects are there for us to choose from. However, because we are from the second session of the module, so some of the projects are full even before we get the chance to choose. I intended to join a project focusing on graphics designing or social media campaigns rather than doing something that is more inclined to be chosen by a UI/UX designer like the AR application project.

The only reason I decided not to go with that AR direction, it is because I had already done a similar project in my previous semester for the Experiential Design module and wanted to do something fresh this time around. Marketing and Graphics Designing are fields that I intend to explore at least once to have the feel of how it goes.

Week 02:
We had to use a spin-the-wheel to decide who would be the group leader as no one initially wanted to be one. However, the wheel spun to my name and I was okay with it at first, although, hesitant as I am facing a health-related family matter at this point in time. I kept my head up high and continued with the module.

We started off by doing our contextual research individually, the reason for this is for us to give our opinions and ideations so that we would have a streamlined idea of how we would want our project to be like. We were quite confused on what's the expected outcome of this project at first because we had yet to meet with the client to further discuss the project.

Our main tasks for this week include;
- Questionnaire for the client
- Individual contextual research

After we had completed our contextual research, we further discussed in a physical setting to explain our findings and had an informal voting session on why we think this and that particular idea is more suitable. After we met with our lecturer for a feedback session, he gave us the necessary comments for us to reflect upon. This is why the tribe selection lasted for a good three weeks. We went a little overtime but were satisfied with our unanimous choice in the end.

Consultation Notes

Week 03:
After we had met with the client and confirmed with our lecturer our vision, we were actively brainstorming with questions from our lecturer during the physical consultation. We then decided to focus on gaming accessories and home & living ideas that were introduced from my contextual research. It was a great combination as the products in these categories are usually necessary for gamers or casual users to create their dream workstations. We refined our searches to ensure that we can scout for products that are useful not only to gamers but also to casual consumers who would like great quality products in different shades of pink. There is also a plan made for the coming weeks on how to handle our primary and secondary research methods. The team are planning to conduct interviews or survey questionnaires to gather feedback.

Narrowing of Ideas

Week 04 - Week 06:

I was absent due to the passing of a family member for these weeks. My lecturer and groupmates were informed of this situation and were understanding enough to let me take the time off to settle some personal matters.

In Week 03, before the passing of my family member, I confronted my lecturer about the situation to introduce the idea of myself stepping down as the leader. I insisted on Yan Ling as the replacement, as I've worked with her and have seen her leadership skills in action. I wouldn't normally reject a leadership role myself, however, I recognised that stepping down in the early weeks of the module would be a symbol of leadership in itself to not let my team fall apart if I were to step down middle-end of the module semester.

However, I was working more on the behind-the-scenes for these weeks such as giving verbal inputs in our group chat, using my platform to increase the number of respondents, being involved in the voting of certain things, and so on.

- Market research on the gaming industry
- Creation of the survey questions
- Finalised the product category and listing
- User Personas based on research findings
- Consultation with our lecturer on the survey questions

- Presented the final version of the survey questionnaire
- Realign our brand's target globally rather than only domestically.

- SWOT analysis was made to further comprehend the strengths and weaknesses of the global market
- Targeted interviews were conducted to increase our scope of analyses
- Prepared the outline for the interviews
- Analysed the survey results and interview findings were done collectively

Week 04 - Week 06 Outcome

Week 07:
Our project and the group members are now more aligned than ever, the analyses done helped tremendously in narrowing our scope to understand the purpose and direction of the brand.

Because of that, we then move on to the creation of our empathy map, actual user personas derived from the analyses, insights discovery, and the problem statement.

I was tasked to handle User 03: John Doe for his persona;-

Week 08:
Although it was an independent learning week, we had our tasks delegated accordingly to maximise the time that we had. We created and presented the user story, user journey map and the How Might We section of the brand. Overall, we were advised to ensure that our keywords of the brand are highlighted and represented throughout the rest of the branding buildup.

"How Might We?"

Week 09:
This particular week is heavily focusing on making and finalising our proposal presentation slides. Tasks were delegated and we maximised our time to ensure that we had everything done and had a session with our lecturer to get feedback on the proposal deck before the proposal presentation session with the client.

I volunteered to do the Ideation section of the proposal which included;
- Problem Statement
- How Might We?
- The Idea
- Brand Story

Ideation (Proposal Deck)

Week 10:
We focused on another round of realignment to the brand by focusing on the visual designs. We wanted our designs to be cohesive with the brand's values, stories, etc. We discussed certain things like how the lines in our graphical elements package should have rounded and curvy lines rather than geometrical to showcase the quality of not being "rigid" since we are promoting personalisation and customisation. To have our brand appear as something that is not linear such as a straight line where there is a point A and point B. Curves and rounded lines are more "free" in a sense. These detailed discussion were held to ensure that our brand is whole and complete.

We confirmed our colour themes for our website too upon feedback from our lecturer and client, alongside completing the sitemap and information architecture to ensure that we could kickstart the actual prototype in the right direction.

Visual Designs

Week 11-13:

We worked on the prototype together as a group. However, I took the initiative to kickstart the prototype-making by providing my vision of how our high-fidelity prototype shall look by integrating recommendations given by our lecturer and the client.

The initial version of the Prototype

Now, we moved on to integrate the new interpretation of the website with our finalised branding qualities, and I had given my starred flow of the website to spark some discussion with the group to further refine our work.

Starred Flow Interpretation

After, we began to work on the prototype collaboratively, seeing that we had the same voice in how we wanted our prototype to end up looking. Consultation for feedback from our lecturer helped in finalising our decisions.

Collaborative Work (Prototype)

This was the overview before more additions were made to the project file, this was the work-in-progress screen capture of the whole prototype making.

Figma Overview (Not finalised)

Week 14 - Week 15:
For the remaining days that we have before the final presentation with the client and our lecturer. We finalised the high-fidelity prototype (available to view in the MIRO) and the team doing the packaging design and 3D models/animations completed their work as well.

Mainly we were delegating sections for the final presentation, and I volunteered to do the whole presentation deck making. I needed to keep track of the team to ensure that contents were ready to be included in the deck, in the meantime waiting for them to complete their tasks so that I could put them in the slides, I completed the copywriting and design of the deck from scratch by utilising our own graphical elements and typeface that we had choose to use in our brand.

Now, that we had completed the social media campaign aspect of the project, this required another round of task delegation and I decided to go for the one in charge of the marketing section of the social media campaign, it is the last section of the presentation deck. This section is mainly elaborating on the launching strategies and social media calendar of the brand.

Marketing Section of the Brand

We created an Instagram mockup to showcase as part of the social media campaign as well, we delegated our tasks based on post-making and putting it in the Instagram mockup template.

Instagram Mockup

We had rounds of presentation flow practising sessions to ensure that we were timed well and that we had the feel of how we wanted to present our own parts. I also gave the whole presentation deck a final check with the team to minimise any mistakes.

Finally, the presentation went well and we were so relieved that it went well the main feedback the client gave us was to include what we have shown in the target audience section in the previous proposal presentation slides in the final presentation deck so that it is more detailed and clear on our goals to have this brand out in the world for the readers or stakeholders to reflect back on.

REFLECTION

The overall journey of this project wasn't only sunshine and rainbows, I had to personally balance this module with the hurdles that I had faced in the early of the semester. I'm grateful to have an understanding lecturer and group members with a great amount of effort and energy into this module to ensure that we excel our best at different checkpoints of the project until the finish line. I did not regret the decision to go for this group at all because I intended to try out a Graphic Design project to broaden my experience not only to UI/UX which is already my major specialisation. Again, the biggest shoutout to my easygoing members who made the entire process much easier. Moreover, our lecturer, Dr Mike has been very great in giving us pieces of advice and feedback that made us actively brainstorm efficiently. We owe him big time as well. This module definitely enhanced my skills in both Graphic Design and UI/UX fields and taught me more about the skills of communication, stress and crisis management as well.
