PROJECT 01: EXERCISE 01 - Sound for Visual (Audio Dubbing)
For this project, we were given a muted trailer by our lecturer for us to do
the required audio dubbing. We must identify the visual components from the
video clip that need the appropriate sound.
Task Requirements
- Categorise the scene and its sounds on a spreadsheet for the organisation.
- List the sound effects for each scene
- To make sure that we have 4 tracks for dialogue, each track for a character
- 3 tacks for sound effects, 3 tracks for ambience sound.
The image attached below is the spreadsheet that I've done to organise the
scenes and the sounds that I've gathered from
freesound.org
Editing platform: Adobe Premiere Pro

PROJECT 01: EXERCISE 02 - Sound Shaping
For Exercise 02, we are required to download the supplied audio from the
slides. By following the instructions, we are to manipulate an original
default sound into different scenarios by using the EQ feature. We were
provided with a tutorial for us to follow and complete this exercise.
Software: Adobe Audition
Task Requirements:
Shape the default Audio using EQ into;
1. Mono: Voice of a phone call.
2. Stereo:
- Voice coming from inside of the closet (muffled)
- Voice from a big stadium (reverb)
- Voice from the toilet/bathroom (reverb)
- Underground cave (reverb)
By following the tutorial video, we are first required to create a multitrack
session, rename and save it. Mr Martin has taught us that a good quality
recorded sound should have these three components, bass, mid-range, and
treble.
Phone Call:
Note: The phone doesn't have bass and treble, so the middle will be
narrow.
|
| Figure 2.1 - Phone Call |
Steps:
1. Effect Rack - Filter & EQ - Parametric Equaliser.
2. Bring down the Bass, Treble, and raise the Mid-Range between 500Hz to 2kHz
3. The power button on the bottom left allows you to differentiate between the
original and edited sounds.
Closet:
Note: Muffled sounds are typically delivered indirectly. Eg; When people talk
when they have a mask on.
|
|
|
Steps:
1. Effect Rack - Filter & EQ - Parametric Equaliser.
2. Reset the effects by choosing Default on the presets.
3. Bring up Bass, Treble to the bottom, and raise Mid-Range to the top.
Stadium:
Note: Stadium has more spacial sound to it due to the bigger location that
affects the reverb and echoes of the sound.
|
|
|
Steps:
1. Effect Rack - Reverb - Surround Reverb
2. Presets: Concert Dimensions.
3. Reverb Settings: Impulse: Space Capsule
Toilet:
Note: The sound is bounced by the wall or the surrounding toilet's walls.
|
|
|
Steps:
1. Effect Rack - Reverb - Reverb
2. Reset the effects by choosing Room Ambience on the presets.
Underground Cave:
Note: The sound produced should be more dramatic to show the tallness of the
cave's space. The more reverb it has the more taller the insides of the caves
are.
|
|
|
Steps:
1. Effect Rack - Reverb - Convolution Reverb.
2. Presets - Custom
3. Impulse: Reverse Tunnel
